We don't know a ton about the Shazam flick, but hell, most people don't know much about Shazam period. He is a popular hero, I guess, and he's been around for decades, but do me a favor and name one of his arch-enemies. Yeah, I can't believe it, but neither can I, and I know a ton about all things comics.

Shazam has been around for a long time, since the early 40's. His alter-ego is a kid named Billy Batson, who wanders into a cave, meets Merlin and gets super-sweet hero powers, which he can activate by saying his magic word, Shazam! When he says the word, he transforms into a brawny badass with the powers of the Greek gods. "Shazam" is actually an acronym of six "immortal elders": Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles and Mercury). He gets a trait from each of them, (wisdom of Solomon, might of Hercules, etc) and can pretty much go toe to toe with Superman if he is so inclined, which is awesome.

He used to be called "Captain Marvel", and sometimes still is, and in some iterations, he is featured alongside his family, which is basically a Fantastic Four-esque family of heroes who all work together to kick everyone's ass. It's long been known that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is going to be playing Shazam's arch-enemy, Black Adam (Black Adam! Of course! I knew I knew at least one villain), but he's oddly not set to star in the Shazam film, instead working on a standalone project featuring Black Adam. Everything else has been pretty much up in the air. Only three roles have been officially announced and they are: Asher Angel playing Billy Batson, Jack Dylan Grazer (of IT fame) playing Freddie Freeman, and the Shazam himself will be played by Zachary Levi. We'll see if Freddie Freeman is going to assume his comic-book role of Captain Marvel Jr. or not.

The film is set for release in April of 2019.
