What Are Triple Driver Headphones?

First off, lets explain the "triple" in "triple driver" for the uninformed (see pic below for clarity). The "triple" refers to the 40mm graphene dynamic driver, a ceramic tweeter, and a bass reflector, which all work together to give you “a hyper-realistic detailed sound stage with silky highs, precise mids, and deep bass,” according to the official 1More literature. The headphones have a closed-back design, and although they are not noise cancelling by any means, they do a decent job of keeping sound in and other noise out. They do "leak" a bit of sound, however, so if you need headphones to use in a quiet area, these might not be your go-to pair.

The Look & Feel

I enjoy the unique look of these headphones, but, unlike most people, I also think the plastic-y black and red "b" on Beats headphones looks generic and cheap, so you might not agree with me. You can see into the ear-cups due to their construction, and overall, they kind of look like tires with a sweet pair of rims on them. The color scheme is still professional enough to use in an office setting, but I could see people thinking these look like a younger man's headphone- it's just personal preference. One simple thing I really enjoyed are the large "R" and "L" on the ear cups as well as on the band so you can easily see which headphone is which.

The H1707 has a nice heft in the hand, but they aren't too heavy on your head. As a guy with a big dome, these sat just fine on my ears, snug, but without making me feel like my cranium was caught in a weak vise as some headphones do. You can tell these are made with quality parts, and it doesn't feel like they are going to snap or break easily, no matter how far I bent them out of shape on my stress test. They fold up nicely and fit snugly into the sturdy carrying case, so you can easily take them on the go.

Comfort

These headphones are quite comfortable, and I was listening for hours before I needed a break. They aren't truly "over-ear", as they sit more on top of the ear, but plenty of padding keeps your comfort level high. The headband is similarly padded, and feels nice on the top of your head. My ears did get a bit hot, but I tend to be a little warm in general. Still, the on-the-ear fit coupled with the padding might bother people who run hot. The pressure on the head was perfect for me, as they sat snugly but didn't feel too tight.

The Sound

Now, the important part; how to they sound? I'm happy to report that these sound great. It may seem odd to say that a pair of headphones are "easy to listen to" but that is exactly what they are. While the mids could use a little help, overall everything not only sounds great, it sounds great in conjunction; the bass never overwhelms, but, much like a good neighbor, it's always there when you need it.

The highs and treble sound great, especially with Robert Plant belting it out on Led Zeppelin II and Band of Joy. The highs are clean and crisp, but they blend well with the mids and lows, only standing out when they are supposed to. The mids aren't bad by any means, but perhaps because of how well the highs and lows are, they seem to be a bit weaker, a little more middle of the road in terms of detail.

For the low end, we listened to "Captain Crunch" off the new Czarface album, a jazzy number that is primarily low bass rumble and splashy, crisp drumwork and I was catching all kinds of nuance I hadn't before, which is always a great sign. Next, we went with "Bomb Thrown" off the same album, a track that features a lot more bass rumble, and the 1More was up to the challenge; while it isn't a bass machine, the bass is near perfect, in my opinion; meaty, but not overpowering.

Summary

Overall, the H1707 has a rich fullness of sound that rivals other headphones at the same price point and even a bit higher; personally, listening side by side, I prefer these over the Audio Technica ATH-MSR7, a solid pair of headphones that cost a bit more. The combination of comfort, style and sound firmly establishes the H1707 as another hit from 1More.
