Set in 1645 during the final years of the Ming Dynasty, players follow Fang Zhiyou, a broken scholar who has lost his memory and sanity following the suicide of his childhood sweetheart. He awakens to find himself trapped in the "Lion Camel Kingdom", a demonic nightmare born from his own writings and the real-life tragedy of the Yangzhou Massacre. In a city where he sees men as beasts, the suicidal scholar finds the will to live by protecting Xiao Yan'er, a little girl who shares the exact appearance and childhood name of his lost love.
