1.5 Million Aliens have invaded Earth to run a Gas Station - Roadside Research launches new automation update
March 19, 2026 - Developer Cybernetic Walrus and publisher Oro Interactive are excited to announce that Roadside Research has now surpassed 1.5 million players during Early Access. Since launch, the co-op alien gas-station simulator has continued to grow through strong community support, with clips spreading widely across social media and hundreds of streams and videos going live, helping drive word-of-mouth while the game maintains a very positive rating.
To celebrate the milestone, the team is releasing the highly anticipated Automation Update earlier than scheduled, introducing new automation systems, expanded customization, and more ways for players to run their station efficiently, whether playing solo or with friends. The developer has also communicated that cross play across Steam and Xbox will be available earlier than planned.
Alongside the update, Roadside Research will be available at 20% off on Steam for 7 days, from March 19 to March 26.
Automation Update Now Available
Following the first weeks of Early Access and a large amount of community requests and feedback, Cybernetic Walrus is introducing new automation tools and expanded customization options to give players more control over how they manage their station.
New features in the Automation Update include:
- Automation tools including a self-scan register and self-service gas pumps to reduce manual work
- Automatic Surface Scrubber to keep the station clean without supervision
- Expanded shop and player customization, including additional mask slots and new decorative options such as plants
- Shop expansion allowing players to increase the store size and serve more customers
- New products including frozen pizza, ice cream, and other frozen foods
- Community-requested quality-of-life improvements, including better shelf management and improved trash behavior
The update is the first step toward the larger roadmap planned for Early Access, with more systems, events, and expansions still in development.

About the Game
For those discovering it for the first time, Roadside Research is a 1-4 player co-op simulator where you and your friends manage a gas station, but as aliens, and undercover. Your mission is to blend in, act human, and gather as much intel as possible without raising suspicion. You’ll refuel cars, restock shelves, and keep the station running like true pros. Players will have to manage two areas to upgrade while playing: the gas station itself to gather and satisfy customers, and the hidden alien research station to prepare for the invasion
Watch the trailer to see what goes wrong when four “humans” try to run a gas station without blowing their cover.
What players can expect in Roadside Research:
- Chaotic Co-op or Solo Play: Run the station on your own or team up with friends, and secretly gather human intel.
- Two Paths to Power: Choose wisely between two tech trees to advance your gas station income and research points to advance your alien technology.
- Oddly Satisfying Simulation: Pump gas, restock shelves, and expand your shop, all while blending in.
- Master Alien Deception: Perfect your disguise or risk exposure. Too much suspicion, and government agents will turn you into goo.
- Alien Tech: Use alien technology to manipulate customer behavior and ensure no human leaves with a heavy wallet.
Roadside Research is available now in Early Access on Steam for $12.99 USD / EUR.
