Developer Quote
Go Kart Island is the debut title from Grumpy Pizza Games. Ewan McKenzie, the solo developer behind Grumpy Pizza, said:
"As a kid I was obsessed with Mario Kart and it has always been a dream of mine to work on my own kart racer. Although I've worked in the industry since 2009, I've not had the opportunity to work on a game like that so I decided to take it upon myself to make one as my first solo project!
Other than Mario Kart, some big influences were A Short Hike, Diddy Kong Racing and Forza Horizon, which helped me form the idea for an open-world story based single player game. My hope was that this would help differentiate the title from other traditional kart racers.
I started developing this game as a hobby in 2019, but after being made redundant in December 2024 I decided to take a chance on myself and work on it full time. It feels surreal to actually be releasing, but I'm excited to finally get it into players' hands."
