40v40 squad-based tactical shooter '83 reveals new Overview video - the first in its Developer Tapes series
Cornwall, England - August 8th, 2025 - Blue Dot Games has just unveiled a new overview video for '83, their upcoming 40v40 squad-based tactical first-person shooter set in an alternate 1983 where the Cold War escalated into an all-out warzone. This is the first in their Developer Tapes series, offering players an inside look at the game ahead of its Steam Early Access launch later this year.

'83 Developer Tapes #1 - Overview of the Game

A spiritual successor to Rising Storm 2: Vietnam, which many members of the studio worked on, '83 envisions a "what if?" scenario where the cold war went hot in an all-out conflict between NATO Forces and the Warsaw Pact. Players will fight across large, realistic battlefields, from fortified German farmlands to snowy Norwegian fjords. Guns behave like their real world counterparts, with the same ballistic modeling, penetration, recoil and weapon handling as the real thing. Uniforms, weaponry, and vehicles are all period appropriate creating an authentic vision of this alternate history battlefield.

'83 was built on the idea of "accessible realism", to make everything as realistic as possible, until the point where it stops being fun and becomes tedious instead, then it gets ratcheted it back one notch.

Matches average around 30-40 minutes, while dying only takes you out of the match for a short while, before allowing you to respawn. Don't underestimate this seemingly low-stakes penalty, as that time-out is enough to turn the tide of battle since '83 requires communication and teamwork, with Squad Leaders guiding their faction through strategic organisation and nail-biting calls. Every role matters, whether you're charging in as a rifleman or commanding the battlefield, the action is designed to be intense, immersive, and replayable.
