According to the fine people at the Hollywood Reporter, Henry Cavil is out as Superman. Can DC do anything right, and by that I mean anything besides one Wonder Woman film??

Now, I am not a huge fan of Henry Cavil in general, but I thought he was an OK Superman. He had the look, and wore the cape well, and I don't think it's his fault that no one can write any decent dialogue for him. The Superman films were dark and gritty like every other crappy DC flick, and 2013's Man of Steel, 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and last year's Justice League were all poorly written and pretty messy, so I can't hold that against him either. I think he did the best he could with what he was given. Still, this news is surprising, as it appeared that things were moving along just fine, with some ongoing talks about a Cavil cameo in Shazam! moving along, which I was kind of excited about; seeing Shazam and Supes onscreen together would have been great.

But the talks broke down, and now Cavil might be hanging up the tights for good, according to HWR. Apparently, there are no concrete plans for a new Superman film anytime soon, and they are going to be focusing more on an upcoming Supergirl movie, probably because their only good film starred a female hero. If they go that route, with the film rumored to be a teen coming of age origin story, there would be little for Supers to do, since he would be a much younger man in the film. So, with nothing coming down the pipe for Superman, and Cavil's recent agreement to play Geralt in the upcoming Witcher series, things are not looking good for keeping him around. On top of that, the disaster that is The Batman movie, and the likelyhood of Afleck ducking out of his Batman role, you have to wonder if DC is just going to try and pull a soft reboot type of situation. If you think about it, it isn't really that bad of an idea, since they have very little right now besides WW. The Aquaman movie is on the way, but other than that, we have a decent Flash, a whatever Cyborg, no Batman and no upcoming Superman flick.

Some Justice League.
