If you haven't seen the amazing artwork of Ralph McQuarrie, take a look. It's astounding how much influence his art had on the final project, simply based off George Lucas' script. Take a look at the concept art and tell me astounding isn't the right word. To call this guy a co-collaborator is almost an insult. The look of the pictures, and more importantly, the feel of them is all over Star Wars.

As the story goes, when Lucas attempted to pitch Star Wars to 20th Century Fox, the studio’s executives didn’t immediately get behind the film, not really understanding the scope of what he was trying to do. Lucas turned to Ralph McQuarrie, a concept artist he'd met years earlier, and had him sketch a few pivotal scenes. Back with the illustrations, he successfully pitched the film, and the rest is history.

Look at the images below, then watch this amazing trailer made by students from the DAVE school in Orlando, Florida. They made their own costumes and used greenscreens to complete the effects, and the result is a look at what could have been if the script wouldn't have continued to be tweaked and changed after these works of art were completed.
