After what seemed like endless years of rumors, we finally got confirmation in August that Lucasfilm is planning a spin-off Star Wars film based on everyone's favorite Jedi knight, Obi-Wan Kenobi. Developing and directing the project is Stephen Daldry, who is best known for The Hours and The Reader, both pretty serious projects (thematically) that makes his appointment seem a little odd. Obi Wan is, after all, a lightsaber swinging badass, and Daldry's two biggest projects are more somber tales of middle aged women. Then again, Webb was a strange choice for The Amazing Spider Man, and that... kind of worked out.
Details are scarce, but that's not very surprising, given that The Last Jedi is almost out, and the Solo movie has had problems keeping directors, among other things. The only details we've got (according to Omega) is that Lucasfilm is planning on beginning work in January 2019. Expect the film to to released in 2020.
