Lightning Review! Bose Soundlink Mini II Bluetooth Speaker

The Bose Soundlink Mini II is one hell of a little bluetooth speaker.

The Bose Soundlink Mini I reigned as king over the first few waves of bluetooth speakers and once they released the sequel, it was lights out for almost a decade. Bose has dipped a bit in recent years, in the sense that consumers are paying more for the name instead of the actual gear, which is true to some extent. Bose has always been top-notch, but I can agree with this sentiment; their prices are so damn high these days, it's crazy and sometimes you can get something that is almost as good for a hell of a lot less.

Consider the nearest speaker to this one, the TDK A33. Brand new, this thing is about $80+shipping and it's easy to find, plus it's generally considered the next best thing to the Bose (CNET even almost did a straight up comparison). I searched for the best price on the Bose Soundlink 2 for almost a MONTH on ebay and amazon and the best deal I could find it in god shape was almost $150 out the door.

Price aside, despite it's age, this bad-boy still holds up like a champion (even over some of Bose's other, newer bluetooth speakers). I took it out to the park, took it to the pool, rocked in the car and even listened for a while at home and the battery was still going. I got almost 9 hours out of it and that included unpairing and repairing to bluetooth and all kinds of music, from rap to classic rock.

Here are the specs:

Dimensions/weight without the cable

  • Speaker: 2" H x 7.1" W x 2.3" D (1.5 lbs)
  • Charging cradle: 0.63" H x 6.2" W x 2" D (2.8 oz)
  • Wall charger: 2.65" H x 1.9" W x 0.6" D
  • Cable: 36" L
  • Wireless range up to 30 ft (9 m)
  • Battery life up to 10 hrs
  • Power rating: 100 – 240V
  • 3.5 mm auxiliary
  • Micro-B USB port

Summary

This is a great speaker, hands down. The bass is rich, the highs are crisp and the battery life is pretty great for the output. You can use it to sync with your phone via bluetooth, and can use the mic to talk to siri, google, or a phone call.
