Final Fantasy 7, 9 & 10 Are All Headed To The Switch, FF8 Gets An

Although we don't have a hard release date, this is super exciting news for Switch owners. Square Enix is dropping Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 9 and Final Fantasy 10/10.2 remastered on the Nintendo eShop sometime in 2019. It's a bit odd that 8 isn't being included here, but I think that for most people, 7 is the big get out of all of these.

You can buy some ported versions of Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy IX right now for PS4, and you can even track down the high-def HD remakes of 10 and 12, but Final Fantasy 8 is getting no love at all. Hell, you can even play FF7 on your frigging phone right now. This is all pretty strange, since FF VIII received widespread critical acclaim, even if it was considered (at the time) a bit of a letdown after FF7. Consider this: within two days of its North American release on September 9, 1999, Final Fantasy VIII was the top-selling video game in the United States, and it stayed that way for three weeks. It crushed ass in Japan and the UK as well, grossing more than $50 million in the following 13 weeks, which made it the fastest selling FF title to date. Point being, Final Fantasy doesn't really deserve the snub, and i'll bet that somewhere, Ifrit is frigging pissed.

We'll see if Square Enix gives us a reason, but for now, let's all just be happy Nintendo owners are getting VII, VIIII, and X.
