When the DOOM reboot came out, gamers were skeptical. How could Bethesda possibly improve upon one of the best FPS in history without screwing it all up, changing the old school feel, and jamming in a bunch of "current gen" nonsense? Skepticism turned to flat-out elation as DOOM proved to be everything we wanted and more; a fast-paced, hyper violent gore-fest with reimagined and updated enemies, new weapons and a dedication to the frenetic combat that was and is the hallmark of the series. Now, DOOM ETERNAL is coming, and it looks like it might even surpass the last game, with more of what we love, and an upgraded hero that is more powerful than ever.

Give this interview with Gamereactor a watch; besides 15 minutes of insane gameplay (starting at 4:40), including a little exchange where the hero stabs out a monster's heart and force-feeds it to the creature, we have creative director Hugo Martin discussing how much more of a straight gangster the hero has become since the last title. Complete with a shoulder-mounted launcher, which can do everything from launching grenades to using a flamethrower, you can use the launcher in tandem with your guns, so you never have to take your finger off the triggers, dealing death as soon as you see a demon's beady, disgusting eyes. Get some.

There are also some changes in movement, with a quick-dash swapping in for the crouch, which will presumably encourage more balls-to-the-wall gameplay. Using the dash with the meat hook, which is a grappling hook that connects to the super shotgun will also open up new ways to move around the arena like levels, and of course, the brutal crucible blade that can hack through your foes like a knife through butter. In short, it's time to slay some demons in a shower of blood and brutality, and we can't wait.

DOOM ETERNAL does not currently have a release date, but it will release on all consoles, even Switch!
