Thing Trunk are calling their latest game a "love letter to classic hack n slash", and I am into it. They are making what is basically an homage/tribute/humorous parody of the genre, and they've definitely put in the time; three years in development, a year in Early Access, and they are looking at a 2018 release. If all the kinks haven't been worked out by then, well, I'm not sure they're gonna be.

Set in the "paperverse", you are a badass (Rogue, Mage or Warrior) who must slay the armies of darkness in the dungeons below the Old Cathedral (of course) and ultimately save the world from the Archdemon himself (obviously). There are some really interesting and innovative features here, like the Flexiscope system that allows you to set the length of your game if you have a limited amount of time to play. You can also customize your offense by collecting skill cards that you can combine depending on the enemies you are facing, but you have to constantly be shuffling and mixing your cards to stay alive and effective against the creatures of the night.  Boasting over 70 kinds of creatures/monsters and randomly generated dungeons, Book of Demons is available on Steam Early Access now.
