Dammit! Vampyr, the ghastly upcoming  title from Dontnod has been delayed until spring 2018.

Sometimes it feels like I've been waiting for a good vampire game since The Legacy Of Kain series. The Skyrim: Dawnguard DLC was fun, but it basically just felt like Skyrim with a couple of mods (which, really, is exactly what it was).

This game has been on my radar for some time. In a lot of ways, it really does look like an upgraded Legacy of Kain, with the protagonist using his vampiric powers to rapidly traverse the dark streets while using stealth and brutal vampire-kills, in addition to using swords and various melee weapons to hack foes to pieces. It looks pretty, the vampiric powers look cool, and more importantly, Vampyr promises to focus on story and player choices, specifically regarding the moral qualms that face a budding vampire.

In short, it looks awesome.

That awesomeness has been delayed, which always pisses gamers off, but usually ends up working out for them in the long-term, as the devs take the extra time to polish and balance the title.

Here is the official delay announcement and an explanation which is refreshing. Check out the gameplay trailer below and visit the site for more information here.

"Delaying the release of a project you hold dear is always a tough decision. However, we believe that meeting a deadline should never compromise quality. We were still convinced just a few weeks ago that we would be able to release Vampyr this year. Unfortunately, a technical issue - now solved - has set our teams' schedule back at the end of the development.

This delay allows us enough time for all the polishing and balancing phase, much needed for a game of Vampyr's scope, with its ambitious, semi-open world, its complex narrative and deep RPG mechanics that give players a real impact on the world.

We want to thank our publisher Focus Home Interactive for giving us the means and time necessary to provide players a memorable experience... especially since so many of you are eagerly waiting for it."

Vampyr will be available Spring 2018 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
