Alkemi, the French indie studio with a taste for unlikely mashups has released a free Alpha demo for their latest game Drifting Lands, a sci-fi odyssey in the skies of a shattered planet.

A horizontal shoot ‘em up with a skill system reminiscent of action-RPGs, the Drifting Lands Alpha is available to download for free on Steam. To mark the release, a new trailer, highlighting some of the games impressive visuals and customisation options, has also been released.

Drifting Lands is an idea we’ve been toying with for years” said Alain Puget, CEO of Alkemi. “We have multiple goals with this project: We want to offer alternative gameplay and a new universe for players who enjoy random loot and theory-crafting to play in. But we also want to create a shoot ’em up game that is accessible to a wider audience - appealing to fans of Bullet Hell shooters and absolute novices at the same time. With a strong focus on freedom in speed of progression and the ability to customise your ship as you like, we think our game will offer a fair and interesting challenge to a broad range of players.”

The Drifting Lands free Alpha version shows the first elements of the evolution system Alkemi has implemented, allowing players to get a feel of what the final game will become. For now, you can level your ship by upgrading its main statistics but further key features will be implemented steadily in the coming months.

The closed Beta for Drifting Lands is set for release later this year for PC & Mac.

About Drifting Lands
Drifting Lands is an original mix of classical horizontal shooter with modern hack 'n' slash standards. In a few words, imagine if Diablo and R-Type had a love child. A fast-paced shoot ’em up action with elements of the action RPG genre – piles of loot and randomly generated levels, Drifting Lands is designed to meet both shmup and hack 'n' slash enthusiasts’ expectations. With a choice of pilot class, players  have the opportunity to take control of a variety of different ships, best suited to their favorite gameplay style. The game will also feature a very wide range of difficulty, making it a fair challenge for those who are usually good at shoot ’em ups and those who aren't.
