Games with the biggest communities

Playing your favorite video game in solo/single-player mode is always fun for a multitude of reasons. You can choose the pace at which you want to complete the story, how many side quests you do or don’t want to do, and play for however long you want.

But sometimes, playing something like sports video games can get boring in single-player mode after a while, and it’s always a shame to lose interest in a game that you were initially so excited about. Our solution to that? Play in multiplayer mode! Whether it’s with your friends or just with other players from across the globe, game communities are a great way to meet like-minded people who share your passion and will mean you continue to have a great time! To see which games have some of the biggest communities, keep reading below!

1. Fortnite

In 2019, it was reported that Fortnite had over 250 million players, so you can only imagine what that number looks like in the present day. With new updates coming to every chapter, players always have new story content to look forward to, as well as battle pass perks and new characters to unlock and play as. The chapter updates also bring changes to the map, so it never gets repetitive or boring. In the last update, they even introduced a new ‘no build’ option for players who just want to focus on their combat skills and not have to worry about trying to keep up with towers and bridges that experienced players are able to construct in a matter of seconds. You have the option to choose between playing in duos, trios, or squads, so you can really control how big or small you want your party to be, whether that’s with your own friends or with random players!

2. Genshin Impact

Another free-to-play game, Genshin Impact’s player base is reported to have steadily increased around 44% each year since its release in 2020. Because of its cross-platform abilities, being widely available on iOS, Android, PC, Playstation, and even coming to Switch soon, we can see how accessible it is for players of all kinds! Genshin also focuses on releasing new characters and events frequently, in which players can earn Primogems as they progress through the game. And if you ever get stuck with a particular domain or boss battle, then it’s a great moment to invite people to join your world and help you out! You both can claim rewards with the resin that you have available and there are always players around from all servers across the world who are willing to jump in and help!

3. Five Nights at Freddy’s

Another game franchise that became a massive hit following its release and has steadily attracted more and more players to its gaming base is Five Nights at Freddy’s, also known as FNAF for short. The first installment of the horror game became popular through live streams and online videos, with popular YouTubers like Markiplier crowning himself the King of FNAF after he had finished playing through all 5 nights. The addition of lore surrounding the games is something that players became deeply invested in, and the creator, Scott Cawthon, really took that on board and made sure to add in easter eggs of all kinds in the games that succeeded FNAF 1. Everything from the game graphics to the storyline continued to improve with each game, and with its multiple endings and mini-games hidden throughout the games, more and more people became invested in the plot. Even if you don’t want to play the game personally, there are plenty of YouTubers and Twitch streamers out there who have created playthroughs of the game, and the comments section of their videos is a great way to connect with other fans of the game and put forth your theories of what really happened!

4. Animal Crossing: New Horizons

If you’re looking for a game to relax with, then ACNH is the way to go! As the 5th installment in the Animal Crossing franchise, it’s still going strong after its release 2 years ago in 2020, and the community has only grown bigger! Take charge of your very own island and become the Island Representative ensuring that everything runs smoothly on a day-to-day basis and that your islanders are happy! The real fun starts when you invite your friends to come and visit your island and show them all the time and hard work you’ve put into creating your ideal island getaway. And you can do the same, and visit other players' islands, provided you have their dream address! You can share patterns for tiles or clothes or simply take inspiration to change up any part of your island as you wish! And by being able to exchange materials and even send letters to other islands, it’s a great way to keep in touch with friends while being able to relax at the same time!
