Dead Format Launches on Steam,
Blending Mixed-Media with Survival Horror
November 29, 2025 – Solo developer Katanalevy and publisher Oro Interactive are thrilled to announce that Dead Format, their upcoming mixed-media survival horror game, will launch on Steam December 10th.
Set in 1990s Scotland, Dead Format follows a desperate search for a missing brother who vanished after becoming obsessed with a mysterious new VHS format. As rumors spread of a government ban on so-called “Video Ghastlies,” players are pulled into a nightmarish journey through iconic eras of film. Step into the tapes, fight through cinematic worlds inspired by iconic eras of horror cinema, and uncover the truth behind the disappearance.
Everything in Dead Format is created exclusively for the game, including props, costumes, and original VHS footage recorded and edited by solo developer Katanalevy to capture the distinctive look of each film era.
In Dead Format, your apartment serves as your safe haven. It’s where you’ll piece together clues, analyze tapes, and prepare for your next step into twisted cinematic worlds. Each VHS tape brings you to a new era of horror, from Silent Era Cinema and Italian Giallo films to 80s Body Horror, each filled with unique enemies, puzzles, and film-inspired details.
